Time management: How an MIT postdoc writes 3 books, a PhD defense, and 6+ peer-reviewed papers — and finishes by 5:30pm

“I’ll answer your e-mail within 24 hours (not 24 minutes), I need notice before starting a project, I will say ‘no’ if my schedule for the near future is already full, and I might schedule meetings up to a month in advance.”

A friend sent a bunch of us this article about Time Management, knowing how well it is that we have all been ingrained that it’s ok to work way beyond the usual working hours. While, I’m not certain I am as disciplined to keep to a fixed-schedule daily, I will be trying some of the techniques he sets out for himself in order to keep to his fixed-schedule.

Meantime, here’s what I really feel like doing after a really tough two weeks at work. I’ve been so stretched, I have made stupid mistakes, spilt coffee ALL over myself (first time! and it had to happen at a client’s! and it had to be on Pitch Day. nice, yes?) and not had a chance to take the bike out for a ride.
